We are slowly becoming more GREEN

We have recently received a large shipment of biodegradable packing peanuts. We will slowly be switching over to these exclusively. This is just another move in our effort to be a greener company. We still have one large bag of regular packaging peanuts to use up and then we will have switched over completely. Please let us know if you like this new packing method!

Pure Organic Vegetable Castile Liquid Soap

Why choose organic?

Organic farming is mostly about thinking of the future. In order to maintain good health and resistance against diseases, the natural balance in our own bodies and in the environment has to be preserved.

The use of artificial chemical fertilizers, pesticides, genetic engineering and drugs interfere in this balance - with unknown consequences! This is why organic farming is much more far-reaching than to what can be seen, felt and tasted.

Angel Heart FO

We are forced to temporarily stop restocking this fragrance oil. Due to the high content of Patchouli EO in the formulation, the price of this FO from the manufacturer is now over $50 per pound. Once the price of Patchouli begins to stabilize and decrease (and is reflected in the price of our FO from the manufacturer), we will restock the FO.

New Products Have Arrived

We have some wonderful new addition to our product lines!

First, we have a scrumptious new Fragrance Oil - Raspberry Seeds.

Raspberry Seeds
A delicious wild, dark raspberry with hints of blackberry, violet, rosewood and woody honeysuckle with a soft base note of musk.
CP notes: soaped beautifully with no A or D and no fading or morphing.

Second, we have added a few new scents to our Value Line Fragrance Oils. We are currently testing even more scents. The new VL scents that have just arrived are:

Spa Fusion
Nantucket Briar type
Buttercream Frosting

If you're looking for a great holiday scent that won't break the bank, try the Sticky Buns Value Line FO. It's a yummy sticky cinnamon bun type scent.

I saved the most exciting new product announcement for last! We now have an Artisan's Perfume Base for you.

Artisan's Perfume Base
Our Artisan's Perfume Base was formulated specifically for crafters. This dynamic base allows you to create many high quality perfume blends and not worry about HAZMAT shipping & fees or an ATF license. Create eau de toilette (15%-18%), eau de parfum (19%-22%), and perfume (23%-28%) with this base using up to a maximum fragrance load of 30%. Works well with most FO's and some EO's. Some Essential Oils may naturally contain moisture and occasional clouding may occur due to insolubility. When crafting perfumes with this product, please allow time for the alcohol note to macerate (soften and waste away) - this may take anywhere from 1-3 days. Industry standard for commercial perfumes is 30 days. You can use this base at 5% in your vegetable oil based perfumes to add a cooling effect and aid in evaporation.

The sizes and pricing are as follows:

6 oz. $5.25
12 oz. $7.50
24 oz. $12.75

Shipping note: Due to ORM-D regulations, this product cannot be packaged in quantities higher than 32 oz.; limit of 66 pounds per shipping box. Product cannot be shipped by any method other than UPS Ground and cannot ship outside of the USA.

Creed's Green Irish Tweed was created for Cary Grant and later worn by Richard Gere, Robert Redford, Quincy Jones, Prince Charles and Clint Eastwood. Living Green - There are almost always options

Have you ever wondered how many acres of forest are cut down to provide the thousand and one paper and wood products we take for granted on a daily basis? Forests that combat global warming, forests that clean the air of carbon dioxide and pump out oxygen, forests that provide a habitat for hundreds of thousands of species of life.

Nobody thinks that we can live without paper and wood products, but responsible use will help slow the wholesale destruction of this invaluable natural resource.

* Save a tree, use less paper. You can buy "tree-free" 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper for everything from greeting cards to toilet paper. Paper with a high post- consumer waste content uses less virgin pulp and keeps more waste paper out of landfills.

* Want hardwood floors? Opt for bamboo. Bamboo is considered an environmentally friendly flooring material due to its high yield and the relatively fast rate at which it replenishes itself. It takes just four to six years for bamboo to mature, compared to 50-100 years for typical hardwoods. Just be sure to look for sources that use formaldehyde-free glues.

* Remove yourself from junk mail lists. Each person will receive almost 560 pieces of junk mail this year, which adds up nationally to 4.5 million tons, according to the Native Forest Network. About 44% of all junk mail is thrown in the trash, unopened and unread, and ends up in a landfill. To stem the flow into your own home, contact the Direct Marketing Association's Mail Preference Service at P.O. Box 643, Carmel, NY 10512, or download the online form. Opt out of credit card or insurance offers at OptOutPrescreen.com or by calling 888-567-8688, a single automated phone line maintained by the major credit bureaus.

Recycling information:

Yes list: aluminum cans, glass, paper, containers: These materials are recycled and made into new items, such as new aluminum cans, new glass bottles, new metal products, new paper, new clothing (such as fleece), new carpet and plastic lumber, etc. Recycling is a viable and growing part of our nation’s economy. Materials that were previously thought of as garbage are now sought after as resources for a growing global economy. Last year almost 14 million tons of recovered paper were exported from the U.S. In fact, scrap paper is now our nation’s number one export by volume. Exports of recyclable commodities generate more than $8 billion annually for the U.S. Recycling is not just about reducing garbage; it’s also about saving resources and promoting sustainable economic development. When you recycle, your town receives a minimum of $15.67 per ton.

Materials on the “NO list,” such as hangers, scrap metal, and plastic bags, can get tangled in sorting or baling equipment. Some supermarkets will accept plastic bags for recycling. Lids and medicine bottles are too small and fall through bales. Scrap metal is too large to bale, so although it is recyclable it is collected separately. Check with your local transfer station to see if they accept scrap metal for recycling. There are no markets for many plastics, especially Styrofoam, planting pots, and plastics that are not from food and beverage or detergent products. Putting materials from the “NO list” into the recycling boxes slows down the workers at the recycling facility, as they have to pick them out and throw them in the garbage. “NO list” items contaminate the other recyclables, and can make marketing difficult. We hope that in the future more items on the “NO list” will become recyclable!

Fun Recycling Facts

• Recycling one aluminum can saves
the energy equivalent of one cup of gasoline.

• Every ton of paper recycled saves 17
full-sized trees and 380 gallons of oil.

• Five recycled two-liter PET bottles make one
square foot of carpet.

• Each glass bottle produced in the U.S.
contains around 30% recycled glass.

A 'Living Green' Tip

Cleaning with Lemons

It seems every cleaner manufacturer is rushing to get on the green bandwagon these days. Clorox just released its new line, Green Works (TM), and you can be sure others will follow. But here's a secret: green cleaners existed long before these products came about. Sorry Clorox!

If you're serious about going green, give lemons a try. They disinfect. They polish. They bleach. And they don't come encased in a plastic bottle with a big price tag attached.

Cut the junk by cutting your disposable drinking cup habit. Instead of a foam or paper cup, sip your daily dose out of your own travel mug if you're on the go, or ask the cafe for a mug if you have a few minutes to hang.

* Cutting waste. If you purchase one cup of coffee every day in a disposable container, you create about 23 lbs. of waste each year.

* Fewer noxious chemicals. Polystyrene (styrofoam) can potentially disrupt your hormones, and the chlorine used to bleach paper cups creates carcinogenic dioxins during production.

* Saving cash. Many coffee houses offer a small discount to customers who bring their own reusable containers.

Thrifty Tip:

I hate to waste Scotch tape by turning the end over to keep it from getting "lost" in those cheap dispensers. Finally I discovered that if I place a bit of plastic cut from a coffee can lid under the end instead, that bit of tape will still be usable (and "findable")!

Our move has been completed

What a MAJOR task, but we're finished! The move took 5 tractor trailers which was more than we expected. Who knew we had so much stuff. LOL It took a bit longer than we anticipated, but everything is now in the new warehouse and things are beginning to come together. Most of the pallets have been unpacked and organized. Heather, the Warehouse Manager has done a fantastic job. So has Christine. They've worked like crazy women getting everything unpacked and organized.

Our shipping schedule has returned to normal. We're caught up now with no backlog. Once we have everything where we want it, I'll post more photos. We'll now have a "sniffy closet" for anyone who wants to come by and smell the fragrances. That will be so much fun!

An update on our move.......

Whew! This has been a huge undertaking and although everyone is nearly exhausted, the end is in sight. We spent all day Friday packing. Monday was spent packing and loading two tractor trailers. The trailers were moved Tuesday and unloaded. We managed to get a lot of the shelving put back together and some of the FO's stored. Today was spent packing and loading the two trailers, AGAIN. We still can't fit in everything, so Thursday morning we're moving and unpacking the two trailers and going back for one last trip of maybe 1/2 to 3/4 load on one trailer. Then we're ready to begin unpacking everything and organizing. I'm hopeful that we'll resume shipping orders sometime between Monday and Weds. of next week.

Things have been so hectic that we've fallen woefully behind on photo taking. Sorry. We'll try to do better. The warehouse space is much nicer than the building we've occupied for the last 4.5 years. However, the office space looks a little tragic - it's vintage, and not in a good way. The office has some early 80's industrial linoleum on the floors and cheap wood paneling. But I believe we can live with it for now.

Here are a few photos from Friday's packing:

We're moving!

We're

Moving!

We will soon be moving to a different warehouse. The move is only 5 miles away, but we have a lot of work to do! We will be closed beginning at 3:00 pm (Eastern time) on Thursday, February 14. We will begin preparing for the move on Friday 2/15 and begin loading the trucks early Monday morning. We anticipate the move to take between 4-10 business days.

Online orders WILL STILL BE ACCEPTED during this time. However, the orders will not ship until we are in our new location. I cannot promise a date on which we will start shipping - it all depends upon how long it takes to move.

Our telephone/fax numbers will not change and neither will our emails. If you need to contact us, please feel free to call. However, I don't know how much we'll be able to help if the computers are not hooked up. We hope to make the move to the new warehouse as smoothly as possible, but there are too many unknowns until we start loading and unloading the trucks.

It's all about the scent........

Fragrance Blotters

Blotters (test strips) are the industry benchmark for fragrance creation and testing. When you sniff a scent straight from the bottle, you are smelling mostly top notes while missing the middle and bottom notes. Blotters solve this problem! Bend the tip of the blotter at about 1/4" to 1/2", then dip the tip into the fragrance. Let it sit for a minute or two, and then wave it under your nose - you'll get a better experience for all the fragrance's notes! Blotters measure 5" x 1/2" and have a wide base for writing scent names. Use blotters to test all your new fragrances, or take to shows and markets to let customers sample your scents. Package of 100 for $4.99.

You can find the Blotters on our Equipment page.

I hope you'll take a moment to visit this site and begin (or continue) to take steps to be carbon neutral. Planting a tree helps enormously!

I am always searching for ways to be better to the environment. Diligent recycling has become a part of my daily life and planting trees can help further reduce carbon footprints. We are searching for new ways to be more environmentally efficient at our warehouse and will keep you posted with updates!

On a different note, our current sale ends at midnight tonight. Get in your orders! If you didn't receive notification about our sale, make sure you're signed up to receive the Scoop Newsletter:
